REVIEW: Flux Information Sciences - Private/Public

8.5 out of 10

Listening to "Private/Public" by Flux Information Sciences takes me back to my youth back when grimey underground hole-in-the-wall punk clubs ruled the city. Flux Information Sciences are a good example of what happens when you mix Punk/Hard-Core with Industrial/Experimental. FIS reminds me of a young Swans (which is convenient because they're on Young God Records) produced by an early Wax Trax band, i.e.; Revolting Cocks, Einstürzende Neubauten, Foetus, etc. FIS is In-dus-tri-al in it's most thrashing/abrasive "machine-like" form.

Most of the sounds on "Private/Public" can best be described as loud and crunchy. With lots of pauses, break downs, odd distortions/TONS of pedals used, bouncy bass lines, harsh guitars, commendable drums that can range from a peculiar loop to live drumming in a blink of the eye, and youthful Michael Gira-esque vocals as sung through the perspective of an overly obsessed Sex Pistols fan with a twisted sense of humor. If you're at all a fan of the earlier Industrial scene, when is was more about antithetic conceptions towards society and machines and NOT just a reason to grind on a hot "goth" chicks, you will fall head over army boots for this release.

This release is just too damn caustic for my ears, which is a good thing. God! I just wanna go smash something now! THIS is that form of "noise terrorism"/upbeat & malicious music I've been looking for..

Standout Tracks: Adaptech, Sit Down Silly!, Love Me Love Me, Demise, Liposuction, Jewelry, Parking/Shopping, Supermarket, Van Services
