The sun is not melting your headphones, you are not experiencing an outer body trip of some sort, your ears are not playing tricks on you.. "Vaporwave" is the sound of a skewed past (long-lost genre?) morphed, mixed, and slowed down into super surreal-nostalgic hyper reality. Can't think of more perfect sound for our current heat wave. ~Stay Cool.

EIC's 10Q's w/ Wise Blood

"..incredibly blurry/out of focus, bizarrely nostalgic-hazy.."

Wise Blood
Mischievous Yearning

Wise Blood Bio:
Wise Blood is Chris Laufman, a young guy who lives in Pittsburgh and makes woozy, inward Pop songs out of other people's music. Laufman's voice is usually the only original element in Wise Blood's songs. But Laufman's sample manipulation can turn something like the brontosaurus-stomp drums from Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks" into just one element of a funky swirl of a track. To hear Laufman tell it, he'd like to take over pop music completely in the next year or so.

Hello, how are you?
I'm doing alright, it's raining outside and my lower abdomen is killing me though

What are you currently listening to?
The new Tyler record 'Wolf', the song "Next To Me" by Emeli Sande, my new record, SpaceghostPurrp, some Dean Blunt, I'm pumped for 'The Redeemer'..Oh! Also Metro Zu.
What's with the band name?
 I'm really not sure anymore.

I read somewhere that you were getting into some shenanigans/trouble which held up the recording/writing process a bit, care to elaborate on this?
Not exactly, it was n.b.d. to tell you the truth. I really did want people to know there was a reason for the delay though, but I probably didn't need to. I'm pretty certain people weren't panicking wondering where I was.

Is there an overall theme for "Id"?
Thoughts and experiences, I want to let people form their own opinions on it though. There is some recurring stuff in there, the 1st and last song tie together and the record plays out like 1 day as it progresses.

Will you be touring the US extensively for said release?
Yeah, waiting on details about that but I'm pretty sure I'll be hitting most U.S. cities and counties and boroughs.

Got any other projects we should know about?
Some stuff I'm working on, a free album I may just drop late summer, a lot of visual shit which I'll be selling for 3 figures minimum.

What movie would work best on mute while listening to you music?
The new Evil Dead movie, just try it..

You can only keep/listen to ONE album for the rest of your life ..which album would it be?
Wise Blood's 'Id', or if I couldn't choose that one maybe The Bug's 'London Zoo' or something by Riff Raff..

Are you living your dream?
My dream is to live in a swimming pool, so I'm not there yet.

Thanx Chris!

Wise Blood is about to release his debut LP 'Id', make sure you check that out as soon as possible..!

REVIEW: Wise Blood - Id

8 out of 10
Find it here.

A few years ago Wise Blood began it's "take over pop music completely in the next year or so" Internet campaign. For a while it seemed like it was happening. An EP, LP, 7", & remix album (all of which have their truly great moments/catchy tracks) later and Christopher Laufman has returned again as Wise Blood. He has brought with him his "A" game, new tails of shenanigans, and a whole new attitude.

I wanna talk about the imagery behind Wise Blood first. It's incredibly blurry/out of focus, bizarrely nostalgic-hazy, and for a lack of a better term "Lo Fi". Now take that exact concept and apply that to Wise Bloods sound. On 'Id' Wise Blood still utilizes mass amounts of terrific samples that are meshed & collaged perfectly together with really terrific beats/catchy hooks, lots of "fun/weirdness" and "Soulful meets Alt-Hip-Pop" vocals that display a truly unique auto biography. The main difference between this release and something older, is overall stronger compositions, really awesome production/sound quality, and a "darker" sense of humor. I'm still semi-confused on who this "Rat King" is, sorry for the loss of your dog though:[.. Can't really think of who to compare Wise Blood to, maybe just trust me one more time when I say there will be at least 1-3 tracks on here that you will love. If you haven't found "your summer jam" yet, start with 'Id'.

I'm ready for the upcoming Wise Blood (re-)take over, won't you join me? Recommended ~like furshure.

Standout Tracks: Alarm, Rat, Routine Reality, AMC Loews Waterfront, 8 P.M. - 10 P.M., Spider Web, 11 P.M. - 1 A.M., Universe Is Blessed, 0.01$ ..yep, I pretty much just listed all of them.

EIC's 10Q's w/ Similarobjects

"..all embracing Electronic wonder stimulating audial tranquility.."

Similarobjects
Dissecting Congenial Habituates

Similarobjects Bio:
Jorge Juan B. Wieneke V (aka Similarobjects) born October 21, 1989 is a 24 year old beat-maker/musician/Experimental artist from the Philippine Islands. He produces electronic tracks with influences ranging from Ambient, Avant-Garde, Lo-Gi, Wierd, Minimal, Glitch, Hip-Hop, IDM and Down-Tempo. The monicker "similarobjects" was a reference to Carl Jung's theory of collective consciousness, the young musician mentions that the monicker was also born out of the seed of thought being a Matryoshka doll wherein there exists a relationship between similarobjects within similarobjects. a majority of the young artist's song titles have new age and cosmic themes in a hopeful attempt to give way to these concepts and open them up to a majority of listeners. additionally he often is fond of incorporating psycho-acoustics and binaural frequencies subtly in some of his mixes. He is currently signed to Local Record Label "Deeper Manila" and "Number Line Records" as well as the Singaporean-based Label "DarkerThanWax".

Hello, how are you?
Hey there im doing fine. Just been trying to create as much as I can. :)

What are you currently listening to?
Lately I've been listening to MF Doom, Shabazz Palaces, Lapalux, Bondax ..also I've been lurking around soundcloud a lot.

What's with the band name?
Had a massive epiphany, call it a spiritual awakening if you wish. I suddenly understood the interconnectedness of things. Were all similarobjects within similarobjects.

Care to shed some light on your EICV7"; theme, favorite track, etc?
No specific theme with this release just a bunch of tracks expressing how I feel at the moment. Feelings, just lots of it. My favorite track would have to be "Petite", like a soft ode to my dream girl. A lot of warm feels here.

Do you tour or plan on doing so?
I do a lot of shows here and there in the Phillippines and I've done a few shows outside of the country. I'm actually really down to do tours, that is if the opportunity arises. I'm definitely down though.

What's next for Similar Objects?
Right now I just wanna keep at it. Collaborating and creating. Its all I really think about. I'll be releasing a full length album by the end of May hopefully. After that we'll see where the flow takes me.

Got any other projects we should know about?
I've been working on some RNB stuff lately. Both some throwback and narco induced kinda stuff. It's called Nouvul. Still dunno how to feel about this but yeah its just my vocal heavy song structured material. Slightly different from my usual SO stuff. Sometimes I just feel the need to write about cheesy shit.

What movie would work best on mute while listening to you music?
Godfrey Reggio's work/any of those "..qatsi" films or 'The Tree Of Life'.

You can only keep/listen to ONE album for the rest of your life ..which album would it be?
Might sound cliche, but it would be the 1967 album 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' by the Beatles.

Are you living your dream?
I guess you can say that. But there is always something better to strive for though.

Thanks Jorge!

Similarobjects is always working on new music (seriously this guy is pretty prolific), tomorrow he will drop his latest; "EICV7" No. 46"..!

REVIEW: Phaseone - If I Tell U

8.25 out of 10

A few years ago Phaseone released one of THE best mixtapes of all time. 'White Collar Crime (FREE!)' isn't "just another mixtape" though, Phaseone takes a pre-made track (quite good selections if I do say so myself..(M83;) and morphs it into something completely "different" yet equally as charming and possibly more seductive & astonishing. I like Phaseone's work a lot so far.. Since then he's done a few remixes here and there, all of them pretty great, as well as preparing for his debut release via Adult Swim Records (aka Williams Street); 'If I Tell U'. I WILL tell U, this album is absolutely crucial for happier & healthier ears.

When thinking of comparisons for Phaseone; Cocteau Twins (whom are coincidentally a major influence on this release) meshed with Modern Electronic Hip Hop meets Jene Michel Jarre (fans of M83 will certainly appreciate a lot of the atmospheres of this release as well) with maybe a dash of Boards Of Canada and/or Port-Royal thrown into the mix as well. On 'If I Tell U' synths are constantly swelling, "arpeggiating" (that's a word right?), and sustaining an atmosphere of glacial space travel bliss. Bass lines and beats are extremely smooth/seductive, possibly preferred for when you're in a more chill mood, but overall extremely appropriate and well placed/conducted. If you got bass, blast it. There are also some really great vocals on a few tracks as well, that sort of have this washed out lo-fi bleak monochromatic tone (soothing). Here's another one of those "something for everyone" albums..

Highly "although that may be unnecessary to even say after you read the first sentence in paragraph two" Recommended.

Standout Tracks: Hunter (on l∞p), Tangiers (als on l∞p), Hexagon Kingdom (h yeah, this ∞ne t), Arsenal Magnolia, Dialogue, Phase One

Phaseone
Conducting New Constellations

Phaseone Bio:
St. Louis beat maker Andrew Jernigan a.k.a. Phaseone gained quite a following after his early remixes and mixtapes began creating buzz around the internet in 2009. These releases included noteworthy cuts of Animal Collective, Panda Bear, and Burial. That same year Phaseone released his debut LP, 'Thanks But No Thanks', as a free download showing that he's not too shabby at creating his own tracks as well.  Jernigan recently relocated to Brooklyn, NY to work on his forthcoming LP, 'If I Tell U', due May 7th 2013 (digital) and May 28th (vinyl).  The record is out via Adult Swim's William Street Records, home to Killer Mike's critically acclaimed R.A.P. Music LP and Metalocalypse's Dethlok.  With this new release Phaseone further expands the boundaries between producer and artist creating a swirling universe and unique aesthetic that is distinctly his own

Hello, how are you?
Great, thanks.

What are you currently listening to?
'MBV', Ike Yard's 'Ike Yard', Earth Roots & Water's 'Innocent Youths', HTRK..

When did this project come about, whom/what were your biggest influences?
I've tried to make electronic music on and off since like 2000, fucking with jungle and dub sounds, and around 2004 I was feeling inspired by producers like The Neptunes and Kanye West and I wanted to create a unique, personal sound like they did and I've been refining that ever since.

Is there a story behind the band name?
I'm in a band?

Care to tell us a little bit about your latest release 'If I Tell U'; themes, favorite tracks, recording snags?
Yeah I wrote all the music and pretty much recorded it all only as it came to me... rather than sitting down with no ideas and experimenting and piecing different random stuff together. I really tried to rely on my writing abilities. I wanted to create a landscape, a world that conjures a strong visual with different characters that come in and out that you can enter and explore and interpret individually, sort of like the Cocteau Twins did. I was listening to 'Four-Calender Cafe' a lot.

Will you be touring for said release?
We'll see.

Got any other projects we should know about?
Yeah I'm working on a project with QVC that's a little lighter than this record; the songs are all shorter and they're all bangers pretty much. Pulling in more of our rap influences. And there are a couple other projects in their infant stages. A couple solo records.

What movie would work best on mute while listening to your music?
Probably Blade Runner, I guess. That's what people have told me. Or Blood Meridian if it were a movie. I'm not really into film that much.

You can only keep/listen to ONE album for the rest of your life ..which album would it be?
Outkast's 'Aquemini'

Are you living your dream?
I don't really think about it. I'm really happy to be putting out records and that the people who like my music can hear them.

Thanx Andrew, Nick & Matt!

Phaseone recently released his "second" LP, it'd be a shame if you didn't listen to what Phaseone had to tell U...
