An homage to French music by M83? Yes please! Sounds like Air, who cares? This is a great track and a bit of a return-to-form for M83. Can't wait to hear the rest of this soundtrack.. 'You And The Night' comes out digitally on November 19th! (I believe a future physical release is planned as well) The movie was directed by Anthony's lil' brother, watch the trailer HERE.

REVIEW: Rone - Tohu Bohu

Rone is another artist I know very little about/nor do I own enough, but I may have to re-think  this. 'Tohu Bohu' is a glorious-epic blazing trail of 5th dimensional Space traveling (TPM) sounds. Or, to put it bluntly, "It's a pretty OK Electronic album (that sort of reminds me of Jarre meets Oizo)".

I love the artwork for 'Tohu Bohu', it's extremely narrative of the spacey-futuristic (TPM) vibes of the music within. Most of the music sounds sample based, although there may be a few live synthesizers in there as well (I'm not really sure). It sounds fluid enough to be either really. It's upbeat Electronic music without being to complicated or loud, it's certainly chill, but it still has a warmish/fun vibe to it. You probably already own this album don't you? (hint: you should).

Trance Procrastination Music (TPM), I like the sound of that. Space-Case approved©

REVIEW: Melody's Echo Chamber - s/t

Let's face it, ever since Trish Keenan (Broadcast) passed away there has been a certain void in forward-thinking Neo/Post Psych Pop sounds. Lucky enough for us Melody (and her Echo Chamber) took it upon herself to fill this void.

Melody's Echo Chamber is a perfect combination of (cutesy-)Dreamy Indie Pop with a twist of flourishing/colorful Psychedelia, that "French sound" that we as listeners can never get enough of (I can't anyways), and a few other eccentric Electronics noises/samples. I'm pretty sure this is all mostly live instrumentation (drum, bass, guitar, and a synth) but there are a few trippy samples thrown into the mix that really give this artist the edge over all other (current) Post-Psych Pop artists. Like a bright haze of confusing color floating like a mist over melted Pop art, Melody's Echo Chamber's debut release is one not to be missed and it has me completely curious about her next move..

The cover art for this album probably said all that I just said, but better..

Melody's Echo Chamber Bio:

Paris-based musician Melody Prochet worked in various bands before starting Melody's Echo Chamber in 2012 after having a dream that the acoustics of her bedroom projected an infinite delay. No stranger to performance, Prochet had already worked with the twee pop Narcoleptic Dancers and the dreamy My Bee's Garden, a project she was very much central to. When My Bee's Garden supported Australian guitar rockers Tame Impala on a European tour in 2010, Prochet bonded with Kevin Parker, who offered to help with production of her new solo material as Melody's Echo Chamber. The two worked quickly, with some elements of the project's lushly dreamy songs recorded in Parker's makeshift studio and some laid down in her grandmother's seaside home in the south of France. The self-titled album was released on Fat Possum Records in the fall of 2012 and Prochet assembled a live band to fill out her solo songs as plans for tours and live performances started accumulating.

Hello, how are you?

Very good, I just finished a sweet breakie and I'm sitting in my kitchen in the sun.

What are you currently listening to?

I'm in love with the Connan Mockasin record, we just decided yesterday at practice to cover one of his song for our upcoming tour.

Whom were/are your biggest influences when it came to sculpting your music?

Kevin Parker obviously (the Guru that produced it), and all the sweet people living at the house in Perth where we recorded (some guys from Pond like Nick Allbrook or Cam Avery who are fantastic crazy musicians)

When did this project first come about?

I've always been writing songs and loved collaborating with different People. This project started when I played some of my new material to Kevin when I supported his band in Europe two years ago.

Do you have a personal favorite track?

I think "Bisou Magique" because it's one of the first songs I wrote in French that I am sincerely proud of lyrically.

If you could choose any artist to do a split record with (dead or alive) whom would it be?

I don't know about a split record but I dream to work with Geoff Barrow from Portishead and also always dreamt to have Jonny Greenwood play some Ondes Martenont on one of my songs.

Got any other projects we should know about?

 I started a band with my band mate Maud where I play drums, it's called CIDER, I'm really excited about recording some jams soon. We didn't have the time yet. It's just a duo, her on guitar and singing and me on drums and I sing too.

What movie would work best on mute while listening to you music?

Maybe this last scene of Antonioni's ZABRISKIE POINT

 You can only keep/listen to ONE album for the rest of your life ..which album would it be?

NOooooo you can't do that to me! Maybe 'Ladies And Gentlemen We're Floating In Space' by Spiritualized.

Are you living your dream?

Definitely, I couldn't dream of a better life..

REVIEW: Sox - Birth Etcetera

Sox (a.k.a. Julien Sens) has been a busy guy. For the past few years, he's been slowly popping up on music-radars everywhere, especially in the French music scene. He's lent his beats to a handful of artists as well as notable remixes for acts like The Polyphonic Spree and Passion Pit. In the midst of all this (2009 to be exact), he released a self-produced EP titled 'How To Picnic'.  This got the attention of Switzerland-based, Mental Groove Records, in-which (last June), his first full length album was born.

'Birth Etcetera' is a delicate yet raw album. Delicate in reference to the seamless marriage of synth, piano, synth, acoustic guitar, and synth. And raw in reference to the pure innocence and honesty of it all. This innocence is most present on the album's introductory track appropriately titled "Birth". A playful piano melody is supported by the sound of a film reel giving the album an immediate nostalgic undertone. The piano dominates once again on the following track titled "Awake". A matching synth and a simple electronic rhythm evoke a self-awareness that often comes with childhood. And from here on, like any good story, you're hooked. Sens' influences for this album are present and accounted for. There are more than a few nods toward Sebastien Tellier, Yann Tiersen, Daft Punk, Air, Modeselektor, etc... His friends are not far behind him either, featured on the album are Chicros and Kumi Solo, a couple of fellow vocalists whom he had the pleasure of previously remixing. But Sens' roots are far from absent, although most tracks here are fairly mellow and groovy, he very much sounds like he's well within his comfort zone on the head-bobbin' track "Daikanayama". which serves as kind of a reverse pallet-cleanser. It feels like a throwback to his "Hip Hop beat producing days".      

The closing track, "Etcetera", is the most beautiful way one can possibly say "Thanks for listening" through the use of synths, a pleasing conclusion that is soon followed by a secret track that plays over the credits in your mind. This is one story you're going to want to revisit again and again until his next.

Mmpsuf's debut EP (which is FREE via the band's site) is absolutely stunning. A must own/obsess over album from 2012. Like a wintery Taxi Taxi! meets Midaircondo♥♥. Velvet Glacier is a criminally smooth frozen tundra melting slowly over a teched out experiment. The end product being "Lo-Fi Experi-Pop". I would also recommend THIS album and THIS album of VG's. The Name are French duo with an ear for catchy House/Disco beats. I especially love this Christine remix from their latest 'Journey EP'. Pop Campaign are a girlfriend/boyfriend duo who will be releasing their debut album on Valentines day. They Remind me of an act from the late 90's/early 2000's Electro Pop boom that unfortunately fizzled.. I hope you enjoy the future transition..
