REVIEW: Drifting In Silence - Lifesounds

7 out of 10

Derrick Stembridge (aka Drifting In Silence) has the "Midas Touch" when it comes to morphing IDM with Ambient & Industrial/EBM tones. "Lifesounds" is the third "official" DIS release and by all means a step up. Not to say that the previous releases weren't amazing, cuz they were, but overall the production and unified theme/sounds on this release are extremely pleasing, especially between the right pair of headphones.

While listening to the first few tracks on this album I can't help but feel a little nostalgic towards 90's Electronic music, you'll may experience that too. Right about when track 3, "Rorschach", begins more of the "modern day" IDM sounds show up, that's the part of DIS I (may) like the most. In between the beats lays an ocean of swirling & bending gorgeous ambient drones, they will become more prominent. Welcome to "Tremer", a 10+ minute long song, you will be washed away to a "virtual space abyss", you will feel relaxed/and comforted, try not to fall asleep though, the adventure must continue.. Nearly every other track after that the mood shifts back & forth between dark & "somewhat twisted" IDM to Eno/Vangelis-esque Ambient Synth music. DIS' mood may change quite a bit on "Lifesounds", but it flows flawlessly. Honestly, if you pay attention to what's going on in the background of all these tracks you can maintain a "relaxation buzz". If you like your Electronic music thick/lush, with plenty of layers that bleed into each other, as well as simple and not harsh by any means, you will like this.

If you wanna dance in a meditative trance-like dream state, use this as your soundtrack. Recommended (for you ..and probably you too).

Standout Tracks: Rorschach, Broken Orchestra (LOVE this one), Existence (kinda sounds like this), Tremer, Fixer (when the beat comes (3:30 in)..yes please)
