REVIEW: Kid Smpl - Escape Pod

8.5 out of 10

When speaking to Kid Smpl I found out he really likes Burial. After knowing that and going back to his music (again and again/time after time) I realized just how apparent that influence was (to see these guys tour together would be surreal). Still though, Kid Smpl's music is completely unique to him, the atmospheres of his songs are perfectly pasted bits of city life after dark that should probably suite any late night commuter with a perfectly snug pair of headphones on his way home..

On ''Escape Pod' we see Mr. Smpl really honing in on his ability to capture urban landscapes. Mostly low-end vocals (distorted of course), mixed with sparse "Dub Step-esque" drum beats (more micro though), heavenly thick synth sounds (blanketed in a bath of modern "warmth"), and white noise urban sampling. Gorgeous and minimalistic tones coming off as extremely layered and intricate soundscapes. Listening to this album is like playing your memory back after a long night of bar hoping and taxi riding. It's a little fuzzy, a little warm, and extremely hazey. It's also..

Smpl-y irresistible;]

Standout Tracks: All very good, but if I HAD TO be choosey; Pulse
