REVIEW: Hooray For Earth - True Loves

8 out of 10

Here's another project I was a little behind on the time with. I don't even know if I had heard of Hooray For Earth before the song they did with Twin Shadow (which is really good btw), but after digesting a few more singles here and there I finally caved in and acquired the band's most accomplished record to date. Trust me when I say "True Loves" has something for everyone (with good taste), especially the MGMT and/or CEO/80's Synth Pop type..

"True Loves" is a bit of magic, mixed with technologic, and sympathetic/ironic romance. The album begins with a synth, a kick, "easy on the ears vocals" and a bit of laid back awesomeness. A nice melancholy intro that really gets this album going in the proper direction. Wait for it.. Track 2 is about to begin (the albums standout/one of this years best new songs).. Glorious vocal harmonies, epic marching drums, pretty keyboard/piano riffs, and swirling synths (kind of M83ish), really "Last Minute" is just pure/perfect Pop bliss from beginning note to end chorus (seriously, I melt every time the conjoining chorus comes in towards the end). Much of the albums remaining songs after that are all pretty catchy or at the very least written/produced quite nicely. I would say most of "True Loves" maintains a somewhat carefree, almost Balearic/breezy perspective mixed with a dash of the 80's club scene (probably somewhere on Miami Beach) and a few arena rock atmospheric sounds (this may sound weird, but it works). Just give it a go, you'll like it.

This one's pretty catchy, you'd be a fool not to get this. Expect to hear a lot about this band in the future.

Standout Tracks: All. Last Minute (repeatrepeatrepeatrepeatrepeatrepeatrepeatX∞), True Loves, Same, Hotel (I like the progression of this track)
