REVIEW: Bad Passion - Doin' It Slow

8.75 out of 10

Bad Passion aren't quite a household name (yet). They released their (slightly under the radar) debut 'Doin' It Slow' at the end of last year independently and got appraisal's from all the right bloggers  (#26 on EIC's year-end list) and, much like when it first came out are still offering it for FREE (us listeners really appreciate things like this, but certain bands shouldn't sell themselves too short;).

Take all the best parts of Hot Chips's first two albums and mix it with the laid back "R & B-vibe" of The Xx + a bit of the "Gaziness" that Mahogany often creates (you should probably be drooling at this point if this band is new to you). Bad Passion are all about oozing sleek, sexual, relaxing, and moody. Bad Passion is actually more of side project though (hopefully on it's way to becoming a full time deal), it consists of Alt (Digits) and Lesley (Powers). Through mutual friends, eventually being in a band together, and then moving in together the duo became close and decided they wanted to make an album the best represents the music that is currently inspiring them the most. Chill Wave meets R & B? Maybe. But more than just that and "another homage" 'Doin' It Slow' is the kind of "side project" that (in my opinion) could/should become the main focus of both artists involved (this doesn't happen a lot, but when it does ie. Postal Service it permanently stains your (at least my) ear canals). It's so good, from beginning to end, these two have made "audial romance" sound so easy and seductive. Keyboard, keyboard drum machine, keyboard, hazy/slow melodic male/female vocals and maybe a few other sounds (plus some keyboards) and all this album is lacking (one thing) ..my patience for their next release. Need MOAR! now..

Highly highly highly highly highlY Recommended.

Standout Tracks: ALL (but if I had to be picky); Rockin' Your Beats (♥♪♥♫♥♪♥), Your Ride, Liquid Fire, Get Results, Gila (Beach House Cover)
