REVIEW: Late Night Venture - Late Night Venture

6.75 out of 10

Late Night Venture is a "well balanced" five-piece Danish Indie Post-Punk/Rock band who have been together since about 2000. They only released a few MP3's online until this self titled debut album came out, which was in 2006. Their sound ranges from straight forward epic rock ballads to atmospheric/experimental electronic murmurs to menial & loathsome pop.

The thing that most interests me with this album is it's use of untraditional keyboards/electronic effects. On top of those "apostate" keys is adequate amounts of loud guitars almost reminiscent of a "fluffier" Interpol, upbeat dance-punk bass lines that are also dark & dejected, roaring drums (depending on the track) that keep the whole shabang in order, and pitch perfect aphotic vocals that almost, but not really remind me of Jonas Bjerre (Mew) meets Conor Oberst.

There are enough upbeat and downbeat songs on here to keep everyone happy. The first 1/3 of the album is awesome to ok, the middle is amazing to hmm?, and the last 1/3 is just ok to wow (Drift In A Slipstream). Overall Late Night Venture are a great mopey Post-Pop/Rock band with a promising future ahead of them if they keep at it.

Standout Tracks: Condition Lost, Lazy Star (damn fine track), Heatherhill (one of those "untraditional" tracks I was talking about), Peace Fountains, After (dream pop sounds within), Drift In A Slipstream, One Night All Trees Blossom
