REVIEW: Moderat - Moderat (Deluxe Version)

7.25 out of 10

Moderat is the what happens when two of the most talented artists in their genres combine forces and become one. Modeselektor + Apparat = Moderat/great idea. The album is off of the BPitch label which they are both on. For those of you who haven't heard these artists; Modeselektor is an IDM/Dub-Step/Club Music/all around terrific electronic band that generally doesn't stick to one genre. Apparat (who also did a project with Ellen Allien) is more of a laid back electronic artist who has been labeled as Shoegaze/Ambient. Moderat is a pitch perfect modern highbred between the two bands, both of the bands get their fair share of digital manipulations with this release.

Sascha Ring of Apparat along with Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary of Modeselektor first collaborated together a few years ago and released a 12" titled "Auf Kosten der Gesundheit", which consisted of 4 tracks. Several years later after putting the collaboration on hold they decided it was finally time to finish a full length. The end result is an electronic genre bender filled with Orbital/Burial/Pinch/The Eraser-esque sounds. You can definitely tell which band did which parts in each song. Modeselektor brings the beat, Apparat brings the ambience. I would've never guessed how well these two bands compliment each other. The hardest thing about this album is deciding whether I like the harsh danceable beats or the gorgeous layers of atmospheric synths more.

If like the bands mentioned above you most likely already own this album, if you don't own it, what are you waiting for? Check into this album no matter what as it is sure to get you movin' and uh-groovn'.

Standout Tracks: Rusty Nails, Seamonkey, Slow Match (feat. Paul St. Hilaire), 3 Minutes Of, Nasty Silence, Porc #2, Les Grandes Marches, No. 22, Out Of Sight, Beatswaysick (feat. Busdriver)
