REVIEW: Con Dolore - Sailors Warning

7 out of 10

Con Dolore is an early 00's Shoegaze/Dream Pop band off of the terrific Clairecords label. The group consists of Kristy Moss & Ed Ballinger, who used to be in the group Polar and Wes Snowden on bass. The term Con Dolore is Latin for "with grief" which is sort of perfect when it comes to describing the bands sound. Their music is very melancholy/laid back with elements of modern pop music. With equal doses of electronics, gloomy guitar sounds, bouncy bass lines, and Kristy Moss' sweet vocals it's hard to understand why this band is so overlooked.

When listening to Con Dolore's "Sailors Warning", their second full length, you may be reminded of Slowdive, Cocteau Twins remix days (ala Lullabies For Violane), Malory, Ms. John Soda, and a more relaxed Asobi Seksu. The breezy guitars, somnolent vocals, and danceable electronics/bass lines really do keep the listener involved with every note.

Really this is just a perfect little pop record that shouldn't be ignored. If you're at all interested in any of the bands listed above do not ignore this release.

Standout Tracks: Your Ways, A Snowy 3 Miles, A Giant Wave, Mutiny
