Alek Fin Bio:

Alek Fin is the Electronic/Alternative solo project created by producer Adam Finkel in late 2009. The debut album “Better When Seen From Above” was released in early 2010. Since then Adam has been releasing a series of remixes as well as working with 4 good friends, Jonathan Marsh (bask), Jeff Zavala (Anicca), John Figueroa (Captions) and Umang Bhakta (Vex Mohan) in creating a live show around it. They are currently performing around Southern California

Hello, how are you?

Hey, I'm doing well. Thanks for asking.

What are you currently listening to?

Nosaj Thing's 'Home', Flying Lotus' 'Until The Quiet Comes', 'Shields' by Grizzly Bear, and Tame Impala's 'Lonerism'..

When did this project come about and whom were your biggest influences for said project?

I started Alek Fin in the Fall of 2009. I was listening to a lot of Unkle, Autolux, Flying Lotus, Radiohead, Thom Yorke, Sigur Rós, and Jon Hopkins.

Care to tell us a little bit about your latest release 'Mull'?

It's an EP about the different stages of thought and acceptance I went through while dealing with some recent heavy circumstances. Took me a lot of time and work to get it where I wanted it. Really meant a lot to put it out there.

Any plans to tour for said release?

No tours scheduled yet. Have a good feeling that will change in the upcoming months though.

If you could choose one different artist for each song on your  EP to be remixed/re-made, whom would you choose?

"Mull" - Jamie XX /  "Rocks In Paper" - Caribou / "Waiting Like A Wolf" - Jaques Greene / "Gone" - Tokimonsta

Got any other projects we should know about?

I have a couple in development. Keeping them under wraps at the moment.

What movie would work best on mute while listening to you music?

Blade Runner

You can only keep/listen to ONE album for the rest of your  life ..which album would it be?

I would be happy with either Grizzly Bear's 'Veckatimest' or Radiohead's 'In Rainbows'. I have a lot of memories associated with both. They would be great for nostalgia.

Are you living your dream?

Still a little ways to go. Regardless, I'm enjoying the process of getting there.

REVIEW: Home Video - The Automatic Process

It seems like every time Home Video releases a new album I mention something about how it eludes me that these guys aren't a household name by now. Well? ..WELL? Anyone got an answer for me? Is it their pitch-perfect melodies, maybe their catchy post modern Electronica sound, maybe there aren't enough fans for bands like Woven, Sinner DC, Underworld, or Thom Yorke?? What is it? Why aren't these guys huge yet? I'm pretty sure most music blogs out there started for bands like these. Bands who deserve way more credit than what they're getting, however will most likely stay "under the radar" for as long as we live..(unless we try hard enough:) I often wonder, does it piss the fans or the bands off more? Seriously, Home Video, you know you are amazing right? Go buy everything this band has done, (now)please?

There's a certain type of music you can listen to that has that "Barry White" effect, you know what I'm talking about (wink-wink, nudge-nudge, blush-blush), it's smooth, laid back, sexy as hell, and just perfect to "make love" to. Sure there are the classics, but how about givin' some "love" to more of the modern acts like; Sinner DC, Lusine, Matthew Dear, Jimmy Edgar, Autechre (maybe a weird listing -- but true), Portishead, Massive Attack, etc (this list could go on for a while if I had the time). Band's like these are good for than just making love to though, they set a standard in good "underground" Pop sounds, they take simple and turn it into amazing, they are perfect for almost any mood (if you ask me). Not too "loud" or overbearing, not too fast, not too slow either, has a steady beat, and agreeable vocals. Home Video is all that and more. Sensual electronics accompanied by catchy drum beats underneath amazing piano pieces, catchy/clean guitar riffs, and (seriously) great vocal melodies. "The Automatic Process" is nothing short of amazing (as usual when it comes to Home Video), people with working ears should be obsessed.

"The Automatic Process" picks up where every amazing Home Video left off. Only this time around with an even stronger Pop sensibility, "radio friendly" piano melodies, even more experimental electronic sounds ("Description Of A Struggle" has some amazing things going on in that track), and as always amazing vocals (of course). Highly Recommended. Highly Recommended. You should get this. Highly Recommended.

Thom Yorke's other project on tour with Flying Lotus..!

Thom Yorke's other band (with Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker (Beck drummer), Mauro Refosco, and Flea) "Atoms for Peace" will be touring in a few select cites across the US with Flying Lotus. If you live in or around any of these cites and decide not to go you're obviously dead or attending your mom's funeral..
