REVIEW: Astrobrite - All The Stars Will Fall

9.5 out of 10

Scott Cortez is really on the ball lately. The amount of releases he's done within the past couple years almost matches his total career up until this point. At this rate it feels like he releases something new (under one of his many monikers) at least 2-3 times (maybe more) a year. The thing is though, the quality is never compromised. In-fact it feels as if Scott is finally finding himself in his house made of guitar noise. He's always been imaginative, exploratory, and completely unique when it comes to his music, but with a few of his newer releases he really has perfected his niche. And now this, Astrobrite's latest LP 'All The Stars Will Fall', which is so f'-ing perfect it hurts (in the good way).

Astrobrite sounds very similar to Lovesliescrushing, only a little more Shoegaze/Lo-Fi Rock/Pop. I know you hate this comparison Scott, but I gotta say it.. Astrobrite does what Kevin Shields was to afraid to accomplish. If 'Loveless'  could sound any more bleak and dark, it would sound a lot like 'All The Stars Will Fall'. As Scott tells me "..this contrast between our insignificant human scale superimposed against the ending of the stars, and a return to the void", this is an album about letting go, as well as being depressed and unsure about your status in life, as well as how long will this "life" actually be here. Astrobrite is Despairing Drone Pop smashed underneath a THICK layer of guitar sounds & distortions, synthesizers, and every other lush sound you could come to expect from a truly ginormous Shoegaze/Ambient Pop Master such as Scott Cortez. This album is yet another reason why I've always felt comfortable saying Scott Cortez is my favorite guitarist of all time.

Truly epic and triumphant. This could be one of the best things I've heard this year. It is. ..maybe. Probably. RECOMMENDEDx∞. PS A little birdy tells me there may be a companion release for this record on the horizon;]..

Standout Tracks:       .i. .i  .  .i  .I can't pick just one. Fine.. Haunter and Till The Stars Fall From The Sky
