REVIEW: Kyle Bobby Dunn - Rural Route No. 2

Kyle Bobby Dunn is a part of the (ever expansive) "Avant Garde/Neo Classical" music scene that's always been a strong leg in New York's mecca musical underground. His music breathes life in (and out) of your speakers. The message isn't necessarily "direct" (more of a personal experience I believe), but you can definitely hear/feel something very recognizable within. With previous works you could expect anything from Minimal "Trance induced" Piano pieces with fragments of strings barely keeping the piece together (somewhat reminiscent of Arvo Part) to barely audible field recordings adding just the perfect amount of ambiance to the song. On "Rural Rout No. 2" his focus is shifted towards post apocalyptic Drones reminiscent to a more relaxing, less dark, but still ominous Sun O))).

The concept of "Rural Route No. 2" is somewhat of an homage to his childhood. He went back to a couple spots he remembered well as a child and simply engulfed himself in his surroundings. He then utilized a guitar, strings, organ, and a few radio modulations to create what sounds like a perfect angelic hymn for a disconsolate post livable environment.

There isn't much to it (that's a good thing). Each track is about 10 minutes long as well as a testament to patience and relaxation. This is Minimal music in one of it's most pure forms. Perfect to sleep to, nice to wake up with. Kyle Bobby Dunn's music is a serene/surreal sound for damaged/bruised souls in need of repair. Basinski and/or Classical/Drone music fans; Kyle Bobby Dunn has a few songs you would more than appreciate.

Standout Tracks: They're both pretty good, I think I like effect "Senium III" has on me a little more though..
