EIC'S10Q'S w/Coyote Clean Up

"..Chalked full of dance tracks that bring to mind a "Lo-Fi DFA" melded with sexy chill atmospheres that bring to mind The Xx, and a few other electronic sounds that bring to mind Ghetto Hop or Dream Crunk bands like Phantogram or Sleigh Bells. Every track is EXTREMELY catchy and lethargic. With music that has the ability to put you in a good mood as well as tuck you in snugly before bed it really is hard to understand why there isn't a bigger buzz on this artist by now.."

Hello, how are you?
Hey Dude, I'm pretty good. Thanks for asking. My back kind of hurts due to a lot of injuries throughout my life and my head kind hurts. Today my buddies and I built this super fast snow jump in the woods. My buddy Justin did a crazy front flip and broke a binding while my buddy Brett was floating big helicopters! I did a big 180 to butt-cheek plant and I'm feeling it. Ouch. I need to step it up.

What are you currently listening to?

Balam Acab "Sea Birds," ... which I did a dub of that you can find on his Myspace. I love the OG and the dub I did turned out awesome. Been listening to the Gorillaz, SND "Atavism," and I just really got into these dudes from Finland... called Clouds. Wow, they are so sick. Ellie Goulding's voice has been stuck in my head for weeks. Random Hip-Hop, house and electronic stuff, Finnish stuff (I'm half Finnish, I love that stuff), and some weird folk stuff as usual. Detroit shit. Lots of weird and good stuff from Canada. Like my homegirl Orphan. She's the whip.

What’s the story behind the band name?
Ah, I'm not really even sure. Well... around the time I started writing these new songs (about a year ago)... There were all these articles in the Detroit's news about "Coyote's Becoming an Increasing Problem." I guess a few ate some dogs or something. So the city has been catching them and killing them. I just thought... that was wack. This is their land!!! I was trying to get my buddy's to help me fight against this garbage, and everyone was like, "Sorry dude, that's your battle." I was like, "whatever," and started Coyote Clean Up. Haha. So yeah, leave the coyotes alone! That's my message.
Also... maybe... Cleaning up your act... or ... MY act. Ha! Coyote's don't drink alcohol and get all fucked up on drugs and shit. Why do humans have to?

You only made 10 handmade copies of your debut full length, are there any plans to release it as a “not so limited edition”?
Well... Julia LaDense made the 10 copies, not me... however, you can download the whole album for free on the Afternoons Modeling website. I got no intentions of re-releasing it really. Just making new tracks and releasing those... hopefully! I try not to look back.. ever. I'm scared of the past, not the future. We live in the future.

What’s your favorite song off of “Double Trouble..”?
I'm not sure I like any of them. HA! But.... the instrumentals are OK and I like the "Dumber By The Day (Nelz the Operator Dub)"... My buddy Nels made it for me for my birthday! He turned a lil folky number into such a deep dub. I heard it compared to Thrill of the Kill Kult, which cracked me up because Nels used to make me listen to them all the time when we were in like 6th grade. Nels is my dude, he's amazing. My homeboy Steven Hamilton, who is like, pro BMX, made two super awesome video's for the OG too. However, the lyrics can be viewed as totally negative and that's not cool. My buddy Danny D thought the song was about him. Ha! "Totally Twilight" is cool... because it wrote itself.... it's not about Kristen Stewart... but it could be? "Toes to the Nose" is cool too... because it's about keeping your head up, leaving the crap behind, and going surfing. Surfing with Steven.

I think your music is pretty addictive, any chance of spreading that sound via full US tour in the near future?
Thanks dude, I'm addicted to making it! Absolutely zero plans of turning the US. I need a car, some money, and car insurance. Who knows when that will happen. I really want to go play Canada. I would tour Canada... but I got into some trouble this past summer and now I need a Visa to go there.... I would love to tour anywhere really, but these things take time.

What’s your least favorite genre of music?
Oh man... well. I get angry at a lot of stuff from NYC. Like... everything is watered down and almost a mock of some original form that some clueless kids demolished. What has become of "Punk" and "Hardcore" really pisses me off too. All these kids love this music and it's garbage! What is wrong with them? Haha. A lot of stuff from LA makes me angry too. I don't like a lot of music rich people make. All in all, I would say "Crap" is my least favorite genre. It's a huge one!

If you could collaborate with any artist of your liking whom would it be?
Dang. I would like to go to Finland and get together with the girls from Hertta Lussa Ässä and then get together with Clouds. Do a whole album... that would be crazy.. but I know little about them. It's been a dream of mine to go to Chicago and record at Soma Studios with John McEntire... I bet that would come out insane. I love the whole Tortoise camp... they make crazy sounds. Jim O'Rourke is a long time favorite, as well as Mouse on Mars. All of their production is next level. However, I'm really happy to have to have found who I have already. It's great. I have a boatload of close friends that are all amazing, low-key and mellow, musicians, DJs, etc. They all got mad original style too. In addition to them, in CCU's short run (only a year now), the new friends I've made (Julia LaDense, Orphan, Fur, etc.) are super awesome. It's a blessing!
It would also be cool to ... go deep deep in the woods and live in a cabin for a while... and collaborate.. with Mother Nature.

You can only keep/listen to ONE album for the rest of your life ..which album would it be?
I'd have to say Hugh Mundell's s/t LP. The one with Jacqueline, Going Places, and Your Face Is Familiar. One time I made a 30 minute dub of Going Places and put it on a tape cassette and my friends and I listened to it like a million times on a camping trip. That record is sexy, sad, hopefully, groovy, thug, soft to the touch, everything....

Are you living your dream?
My dream? Sort of... well... what is my dream? I guess all I want to do is making music, share it, make art, share it... making people happy, make life better... and enjoy the planet with all the cool people, places, animals, and plants on it! I have a lot of unaccomplished goals. I still suck at surfing. I've done a lot of traveling, but not enough. However, in reality, life is but a dream. I'm lost in the clouds, and I can't complain!

Thanx CCU!
