Thank you Syd & Tiffany;] Syd & Tiffany (aka Myyths) are 1/2 Fvnerals, because of a previous post this amazing duo decided to reach out to me and share something new/really special..

Mixing elements of dark & brooding Post Industrial clamor with Classical-Gothic overtones plus sparse Electronic tones mixed with Field Recorded-esque atmospheres; 'Tystnadt' is quite possibly one of the best debuts I have ever heard. Myyths may be lumped under the Witch House genre, but they're really something much more unique than just one sound. "Organic Goth Factory Tech" seems a little more appropriate if you ask me.. I feel like I haven't been this pleased with a new comer in a long time. RIYL: Zola Jesus, Ben Frost, Mustapha Mond, Chelsea Wolfe, ∆Aimon, and the likes.

So far the best new thing from 2014. Highly "I am 100% excited for this projects future" Recommended x ∞.

Myyths Bio:

MYYTHS is Syd S. and Tiffany S. The pair met in Brighton, UK, during Winter 2012. brought together by a love for similar artists and each others music. A desire to work together quickly grew and after several months of songwriting collaboration, they released an EP and started gigging as a four piece under the name Fvnerals.   In the fall of 2013, the duo started working on a side project experimenting with electronic production. MYYTHS was born. "Tystnad" was written as a whole, a journey through existence where each song forms an intricate portrait, experimenting with electronic textures, traditional instruments and percussions to create haunting sounds while lyrics revolve around unrequited love, nothingness and devotion. Their debut album was released online on January 13th, 2014. MYYTHS is now looking for a label to help them release their album physically and will start performing live in March/April.

Hello, how are you?
Tiffany: Very well thanks for having us

What are you currently listening to?
Tiffany: The Blood Brothers album 'Crimes' and 'Visions' from Grimes. I've also been listening a lot to Mirel Wagner recently.
Syd: Lately I've been listening to a Turkish cello player named Gülşah Erol, her album 'Psychosis' is amazing. Also 'Pipe Dreams' from Whirr and Barn Owl's 'Lost In The Glare'.

What's the story behind the band name?
Syd: I wouldn't say there's a real story behind it, we thought it fitted our musical world well. I also like the visual aspect of it, I find it eye-catching.

Was there a specific sound you were going for when you began this project?
Tiffany: We spend a lot of time together and our musical personalities combine very well so it was more of a desire to form a duo than going for a specific sound.
Syd: I tend to write music that I would want to listen to depending on my moods and being a two piece was a good way of feeling more free and spontaneous while writing.

Care to shed some info on your debut release; theme, favorite track(s), etc?
Tiffany: My lyrics revolve around unrequited love, nothingness and devotion. I tried to complement the music rather than overpowering it.
Syd: I wanted to write an album that feels like one long piece with different but coherent parts to keep a general dark atmosphere throughout the songs. My favorite song is "Tystnad", I'm really happy of how it sounds and I love Tiffany's vocals on it.
Tiffany: My personal favorite is "Rise". I like the atmospheric feel to it.

Will you be touring extensively for said release?
Tiffany: We are hoping to. We started contacting promoters and are now trying to get shows.
Syd: We'd like to travel with this project too so we're looking for places to play outside of the UK.

Got any other projects we should know about?
Tiffany: We have a band named Fvnerals where I sing/play synth and Syd plays guitar.
Syd: We run a small label named Eerie Echoes. We use it for our releases and share bands we like with our online distro.

What movie would work best on mute while listening to you music?
Tiffany: The only movie I watched recently was Con Air and it doesn't fit at all.
Syd: I guess Gus Van Sant's 'Last Days' or Inarritu's '21 Grams' would work, or something like 'The Road' or 'Apocalyspe Now'.

You can only keep/listen to ONE album for the rest of your life ..which album would it be?
Tiffany: 'If You Can Believe Your Eyes And Dreams' by The Mammas and the Papas. It's an album I've been listening to for years and I still haven't got bored of it. Listening to it always makes me want to sing and dance around.
Syd: Beach House's 'Devotion', it's not my favorite album ever, but it's one I never got tired of.

Are you living your dream?
Tiffany: Yes and no. I would not say I’m not living my dream to the fullest yet. There’s a lot I’d like to do, and it’s more of a matter giving each dream time to grow, doing a bit of everything in the meantime.
Syd: I readjusted my dream so much that I'm not sure what it was before or if it even existed. So I guess not but I'm working towards a part of it.

The latest release from the (always) impressive Post Religion label, Cairn Elan is Corey Davenport of Orland, Fl. His music, a fusion of Dark-Experimental Trap/IDM (that reminds me of Downstate a bit) mixed with seductive Witch House resonance (somewhat reminiscent of a "softer ∆Aimon"), leaves me with ardent ears. I can't wait to see where he takes his sound down the road.. Just don't veer too far off this path Corey, I like where you're going with this;]

New Fifty Grand..

This morning I awoke to the sound of Edward Williams' 'Life On Earth'. While under Mr. Williams' spell I stumbled across this beauty (as heard above).. Sometimes I languish into the net and loose focus, we all do right? Whilst day tripping Mr. Williams began to fade slightly more into the background of my headphones while Fifty Grands latest dramatic indulgence began to take over.. These two contrasts danced with each other for a "grand" (←get it?) three minutes.. A proper awakening if I do say so myself.. I just thought I'd share.. It's been a great year for Fifty Grand..

Here's what I know; Yöri is from Iceland (LA based I believe), that and I-am-obsessed. I don't even know where to begin on comparisons.. Bjork does Witch House maybe? Who cares? This is absolutely perfect between my headphones. Please keep it up Yöri (I will forever be grateful;).

Fatti Frances has to be one of the most innovative female Dark Electronic music producers out there right now. This album, 'Sweaty', in-particular is amazing and it brings to mind Sleigh Bells slowed down to o0o00's speed..[this is brilliant darkness].

How did I miss this DenMother release..?

DenMother is consistently better with every new release she puts out. 'Insides Out' (my new favorite DM) is a lush-futuristic voyage through a deep ominous abyss. Not sure how this album slipped past me, but I'm glad we've become acquainted;]

“Tangled Memories” composes Dark Ambient, Electronic, Trip/Glitch Hop under the concept of “relationship music” distancing himself from society and people he creates a dream like state of mind in a desperate attempt to reach out to his listeners and describe an illusion of being in a relationship with someone and never being able to be close enough to said person, along with everyday struggles in ourselves and our own lives.

I am lost in a conscious stream of personal doubt and growth.

What are you currently listening to?
currently a playlist of the discography of Bibio and Boards Of Canada..

When did this project come about and whom were your biggest influences for said project?
This project ultimately has been a work in progress for over two years now, it wasn't until early November when I decided to break out of my solitude and release some of it. My biggest influence for my music is some of the personal experiences I've had in my own life along with the genres of music I was most drawn to for influence musically. Such as, Boards Of Canada, Bibio, The Field, Burial, Blonde Redhead, Mew, Belong, Atlas Sound, Tim Hecker, Gold Panda, and Baths. It wasn't until I showed one of my acquaintances what I had been working on and was lead on to find out about current popular artists such as Xxyyxx and Holy Other. Looking up a bio about Holy Other I was completely numb as my heard dropped in my chest to discover he as well was writing and producing albums under the concept of what he calls "relationship music" although not all of my songs are derived from the dark side of relationships that i've experienced I thought it was quite remarkable that someone following a similar path as mine, would gain so much positivity toward their music.

Care to tell us a little bit about your latest release 'Untwist My Hands'?
I feel the album speaks for itself really. It's a constant contradiction of oneself trying to control everything in a surrounding environment. Along with maintaining sanity and inner peace through self destruction. The concept for "Untwist My Hands" is a complicated affair. Trying to blame someone else for things that are out of your control but when it really comes down to it, you're the one twisting your hands behind your back.

Any plans to tour for said release?
Plans are an unstable for me. I have amazing ideas, but there is only so much you can do with limited resources. I would like to try to reach more of a fan base in the mid-Michigan area before I attempt to start playing live shows again. I received Jake Rosenthal (How To Dress Well's booking agent) "POPGUNBOOKING" upon meeting him at a festival last year, so I'm planning to get into contact with him and see what he can do for booking a show for me in Chicago, or New York.

If you could choose any artist(s) to remix your work, whom would you choose and why?
I wonder what "The Field" would have to offer when it comes to remixing my music. I've always loved the progression of his tracks.

Got any other projects we should know about?
My first dive into the Ambient/Electronic genre was with my previous project "Prince Ashitaka" before I decided to include vocal samples from various places including my own. I played a lot of shows in the mid-michigan area before I stepped back and realized I had once again changed my direction. I'm a fickle musician, so far this is the longest standing project I have worked on before ultimately changing into something different. I hope to continue this project for a very long time. The two albums I released under Prince Ashitaka are available for free download on bandcamp as well.

What movie would work best on mute while listening to you music?
"Candy" (2006) a lot of my listeners would inquire "Requiem For A Dream" as well. But I think almost anything creepy would work. As far as the strong hold on "drug" related movies when it comes to synching my music is the overall concept of the emotion I put into my music. I've always thought true love to be as powerful as a drug, so it seemed to fit.

You can only keep/listen to ONE album for the rest of your life ..which album would it be?

Are you living your dream?
Honestly, living my dream would be more appropriate if I were traveling and able to connect with established listeners. I have captivating ideas when it comes to connecting with an audience on a visual/audio level but I must keep continuing to grow and work hard for the things I desire with my music career. I've already decided from the begging that my main goal is to connect with people and if my music can help someone get through a complication in their life, that's all I'm really asking for.

I've said it before, I'll say it again.. sometimes (only sometimes) I think it's unfortunate how many Electronic composers are out there today.. There are just too many overlooked talents out there! Had Tangled Memories originally surfaced around the mid-late 90's Trip Hop/Electronic music boom I think it could have been one of THE standouts and possibly gained the audience it deserves. Since I first came across Tangled Memories (only a couple months ago) I've had all of Garett's (TM) work on repeat (seriously, check it.). Tangled Memories is a paradisal consolidation of Romantic-Gothc/Moody Witch House with ghostly-hazy Trip Hop, and Dark-Ambient Electronic effervescents.

Tangled Memories latest release 'Untwist My Hands' (Premiering today on EIC!) is one of the best releases of the year no-doubt.. Fog covered Electronics are "meshing/forming one with" gorgeous Classical elements (both the instrumental and vocal variety) which are of course skewed and Dragged out, familiar sounding/catchy beats (or loops) are laid out on top to give the listener a sense of narration, and then there's the vocals (which are either sample-based or recorded/distorted); possibly the most beautiful element in this masterpiece. To put it bluntly, 'Untwist My Hands' is near-perfect from beginning to end. Not one track feels out of place, the tone maintains a certain standard, and the music is really damn awesome. I can't think of one reason why you aren't liustening to Tangled Memories right now.

REVIEW: Alley Catss - II

Sometimes all I need to get me through a day are some rough-experimental noises matched up with a few simple beats. Alley Catss gives me just that, a unique combination of "noise meets body sway".

Although 'II' is Alley Catss first official LP, Máté (the kid behind the jamss--he's only 14!) actually has quite a few releases under his belt. Some of his releases are under other aliases (good luck searching;) and a couple more under this moniker. Alley Catss' 'II' is an exotic trek through mystical-worldly sounds, obstructed beats, and dark-collaged atmospheres (is that a Windows® start-up sample I hear?) pasted together in one phantasmic package. "Brain-Melting Electronic Witch Mystery House" is another way of putting it. At first listen this release may not be for the faint of ear/get-to-the-point kind of listener, but given a few more absorbing tries you will soon hear what this kid is onto. At such a young age, I can only imagine how much talent and know-how Máté will gain as he grows.. I just hope he sticks with it and lets his art form evolve naturally.

There's something really perplex about the simplicity of this release.. Give it a go, you may dig what you hear.

Psychic Rites are an up & coming (should be a household name any day now) act off of the always surprising Aural Sects. It's hard to compare them to anyone else.. Maybe Witch House mixed with Tropical Goth-Dance, a "Poppier" Water Borders ..maybe? Whatever it is it's super addicting. Mangetout sent me a magical email this morning;], in-which had a link.. What are you currently listening to?
Over the last couple of months we've been listening to a lot of music. Here's some that have been on high rotation; Coil 'Horse Rotorvator', Silent Servant 'Negative Fascination', Dead Can Dance 'Anastasis', Peter Murphy 'Deep', Tricky 'Pre Millennium Tension', Morricone 'The Mission', Goreck's 'Symphony No 3.', Bowie 'Outside', Talk Talk 'The Colour Of Spring', Xasthur 'Portal Of Sorrow', Vatican Shadow 'Kneel Before Religious Icons' and more.. Recently we picked up the latest Andy Stott record, which we love.

Whats with the band name?
We take our name from 16 century soprano males, the Castrato or "Castrati" as they were known. Basically it's a male that has been castrated before puberty to retain a pure soprano voice. The horror of such an act, purely for music is insane and pretty special at the same time.

When did this project come about?
We have been writing and producing music and art for a long time. We self-released some early material in 2009, 'The Music of Chance EP'. Following this releases we spent a solid 2 or so years writing and recording 'Eora'. We wrote about 25 tracks for the album but felt that the 7 that make the album best represented what we set out to do which was capture our ideals of the Australian landscape, it's history and the vast expanse we call home... most of the time.

Care to tell us a little bit about 'Eora', themes/personal favorite track(s)?
The idea was to create a record that reflected our country, the landscape and the history. Not so much a concept record but an album that felt like the soundtrack to a place. We don't want to single out tracks as we hope the album works as a whole but there are certain parts that we like best, the ending of "Monolith", the middle 8 in "The Hanging", the guitar break in the title track. Liela's voice is also a part of the record that we love.

Any plans to tour for said release?
We are currently recording a follow up release in LA, probably an EP. We will then hopefully begin playing live in the later part of 2013. We're talking about it now. It should be good but we will work on some lighting and additional things to make it worthwhile.

Got any other projects we should know about?
We worked on this great TV show called 'Watch With Mother'. We did the soundtrack with our good friend Jack Ladder. Check it out here: http://www.watchwithmother.tv  We also contributed some beats and drones to an Australian Contemporary Opera called 'Confined'. Our friend Barton Staggs, who is this fantastic Australian composer asked for some abrasive beats and guitar drones so we happily obliged. Check it out here: http://confinedopera.com  There is also something that we'll be working on next year that is going to be strange and extreme. It is a subliminal art project, working in socially disaffected areas of Australia. We're working again with Jack Ladder but that's about as much as we can say about that at this point.

What movie would work best on mute while listening to you music?
We tend to work as though we're making the soundtrack to an imaginary film. There are very distinct images that we try to write against, but seeing as that film only exists in our heads we'll say 'Wake In Fright'. It's an Australian film from 1971 that shines an unfavourable light on rural Australia.

You can only keep/listen to ONE album for the rest of your life ..which album would it be?
That is a tough question but we'll say 'The Downward Spiral'. That album continually offers new ideas and sonic landscapes that no one has really come close to touching.

Are you living your dream?
Not so much living our dream, maybe just living in a dream. We sleep very little so most of our day to day is pretty surreal. It's been a great year and we're completely filled with gratitude that our music means something to people. It's beautiful and inspiring. Thanks for taking the time to listen.

REVIEW: Castratii - Eora

More people need to know about this project. More people need to be talking about how important 'Eora' is to the Gothic/Witch House community. More bands need to sound as amazing as Castratii. Perfect Dark music like this only comes along ever-so often.

'Eora' is a supposed biography/documentary of Castratii's local terrain-environment. An album, perhaps more understood, if you're familiar with the area..? No matter, you will still feel quite an emotional attachment to these songs as they bleed heart and knowledge to the nth degree. (To me) Castratii's "Dreamy Gothic" sounds can be compared to Cocteau Twins meets Beach House as produced by Salem. I think more often than not this Sydney duo will be lumped into the Witch House genre (which is ok), but there are strong touches/layers of Shoegaze, 80's Goth Pop, and a few other Ambient Spacey delights. Each track just a beautiful as the next.. (you can tell these guys are perfectionists)

..do NOT pass this band up/highly recommended to anyone with a weak heart for all things shiny morose.

Hello #Morgan, It's nice to meet you. In my opinion there isn't one bad track on 'Half Asleep' (all standouts, especially "O Heart!"). Had C. Wolfe ever dabbled in Witch House more it may have come close to sounding something like this, and I just wanted to thank you for sharing/conducting the atmospheres you've created here. You have given my ears exactly what they need right now, and I hope there's much more to come.. ~New Fan
